O'Grady grew up in Wheaton, Illinois and graduated from the Wheaton North High School in the year 1981. She is the daughter of Jan O'Grady (a finance planner) and Jim O'Grady. Her family was from Wheaton, Illinois, and completed her studies at Wheaton North High School in 1981. The model was featured in several commercials before shifting in Los Angeles in 1986. O'Grady's first job was to model as a model for Montgomery Ward. She also appeared in several advertisements. She debuted on the big screen in 1988, in the romantic comedy she's Having a Baby.
